Just 5km from Scariff is East Clare Golf Club and within its grounds bordering the old walled garden lies this cluster of 51 detached holiday homes known as the Golf Lodges. The setting is thoughtfully planned in a landscaped area next to the golf course and the interiors are spacious and bright with homely rustic furnishings and comfortable sofas. The original Coolreagh House has been transformed into the reception area, and obviously golfers are spoilt for choice whilst on holiday - with discounted rates available. However, the range of outdoor activities on offer also means this is a comfortable holiday base for non-golfers and those who wish to explore the area - indeed, organised sightseeing trips for small groups can be arranged. There are walks from the door and the East Clare Way is a challenge for more experienced walkers. There are numerous opportunities to engage in equestrian pursuits, which are available for all grades - and of course the Holiday Village’s close proximity to Lough Derg means water sports are readily available. Killaloe is just a 20-minute drive and is a bustling, lively town with a 13th-century cathedral and lots of fine restaurants, pubs and shops. A great day out is a visit to Knappogue Castle and Quinn Abbey. Or visit Limerick City, King John’s Castle and the Hunt Museum and take in Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. Shops 0.5 miles.
