New Galloway is Scotland’s smallest Royal Burgh and is on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park, which has great opportunities for walking, cycling and watching the wildlife. Loch Ken offers sailing, water sports and good coarse fishing. You can enjoy a leisurely stroll to the loch from the cottage. At the edge of the village is a 9 hole golf course. Near Laurieston is the Red Kite feeding farm, a wonderful site for enthusiasts. Travel south to the traditional market town of Castle Douglas which has a great variety of local shops specialising in local produce. Threave Gardens and Castle (NT) are close by. Kirkcudbright is known as the artists town as many over the years have made it their home and there are good art, craft and antique shops today.
